Marcel Duchamp organized at least one exhibition on behalf of the American Chess Foundation which featured works for sale by numerous chess players who also happened to be leading 20th century artists. It is assumed that Sidney Wallach came into possession of the works by virtue of his close connection to the world of chess and not the world of art.
